Mirren Gidda was instructed by Goksel Karova of Attwater Jameson Hill solicitors to represent the family of Margaret Mary Picton, known as Rita, who, in the early hours of 10 September 2022, was taken to Leigh Moss Hospital in Liverpool under section 3 of the Mental Health Act 1983. Rita displayed escalating behaviours throughout that day, culminating in several instances of her attempting to eat paper in full view of staff. DAMAGES – FIVE FIGURE SETTLEMENT
Successfully settled a Human Rights Act claim on behalf of the family of a Mental Health patient, resulting in a damages award of five figures, having previously represented the family at the Inquest.
INQUEST REPRESENTATION
We provided Inquest representation for the family of a young man who tragically died during a period of home leave from a mental healthcare unit. We also successfully pursued a claim, on behalf of the family, for damages for negligence and breach of Article 2 Human Rights Act.
NEGLIGENCE RESULTING IN BRAIN DAMAGE
Successfully pursued a claim for a psychiatric patient who fell off a balcony, whilst under the care of the Defendant, fracturing her skull and suffering some brain damage. It was alleged that this was caused by negligent psychiatric care. She was awarded damages, approved by the Court, in six figures.
CLAIM SETTLED FOR CLIENT WHO SUFERED SERIOUS HEAD INJURY
We have just recovered damages in six figures for a client who sustained a serious head injury whilst in psychiatric care. It was argued that the client suffered this injury because of a number of negligent failures in the care provided.
