Powers Of Attorney

Have you considered who would manage your affairs if you became mentally incapable of handling things yourself?  Many clients have the foresight and wisdom to ask us, as their solicitors, to prepare a lasting power of attorney, in order to minimise the problems should this situation arise.  Planning ahead in this way can save those closest to you a costly and time consuming application to court at what could be a testing time.

A power of attorney is a legal document in which a person gives another person or persons (the attorney) authority to make certain decisions on his or her behalf.
You may opt to have either:

a personal welfare lasting power of attorney for decisions about both health and personal welfare, such as where to live, day-to-day care or having medical treatment;

Or

a property and affairs lasting power of attorney for decisions about finances, such as selling the house or managing your bank account;

Or

both.

Once created, each individual lasting power of attorney should be registered with the court. If you would like to discuss which option would be best for you, or if you’d simply like to arrange for a Lasting Power of Attorney, please call one of our solicitors listed below.
