Divorce & Separation

Whether you are married, in a civil partnership or co-habiting, separation can be a frightening and emotional time, even  though for some it may actually be a relief.  When a relationship ends you need the right advice and support from a trusted and experienced family lawyer.  Having a good solicitor in whom you have confidence  will make all the difference at this difficult time.

Our experienced team of family lawyers can advise you on the options available to you when you decide to part. If your marriage has irretrievably broken down you or your spouse can start divorce proceedings.  We will advise you on the grounds for divorce, explain the procedure and assist you in all steps to decree absolute.  For some people (perhaps for moral or religious reasons) divorce may not be the best option.  In this situation it may be sensible to enter into a Separation Agreement (Deed of Separation) or apply to the Court for a Judicial Separation.

If you have grounds to annul your marriage, we will advise you on this.

If you are not married or in a civil partnership, you will still need legal advice on your position especially if you own property together.  There is no such thing in English Law as common law marriage and it is therefore important that you understand your entitlement at an early stage.

Please feel free to telephone any one of our family team to discuss matters in confidence.  We can arrange for an initial consultation so you can understand the options available to you.
